Welcome Marina Masliakova to the von Mentzer Lab

Marina Masliakova

I am very happy to welcome Marina Masliakova as the second PhD student in the von Mentzer Lab!

Marina joins the group as a doctoral student within the Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) programme at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of Gothenburg. With a background in bioinformatics and computational biology, she brings strong expertise in analysing large-scale biological data and is now applying these skills to questions in bacterial evolution and pathogenesis.

During her PhD, Marina will be entering the world of microbiology using computational approaches to study how Escherichia coli evolves through the acquisition and exchange of virulence factors. Using comparative genomics, machine learning, and evolutionary analyses, her project aims to understand how new pathogenic variants emerge, adapt to different hosts, and spread across bacterial populations.

We are excited to have Marina on board and look forward to seeing her develop as an interdisciplinary researcher over the coming years. Welcome to the team, Marina, and to the University of Gothenburg!
